Our researchers must adhere to all relevant codes of practice including the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research 2018. This Code promotes integrity in research and explains what is expected of researchers by the community. Compliance with the Code is a prerequisite for receipt of NHMRC and ARC funding.
In support of the Code, SVI has developed a suite of policies that address best practice research. These policies are posted on the Institute’s Intranet and are reviewed regularly. All SVI staff and students are expected to be familiar with the Code and the Institute’s best practice research policies.
SVI takes allegations of research misconduct seriously and has a policy in place for receiving and managing such allegations in accordance with the Code, whether they are raised by internal or external parties.
Our policies are designed to support a culture that demonstrates the eight Principles that are hallmarks of responsible research conduct:
- Honesty in the development, undertaking and reporting of research;
- Rigour in the development, undertaking and reporting of research;
- Transparency in declaring interests and reporting research methodology, data and findings;
- Fairness in the treatment of others;
- Respect for research participants, the wider community, animals and the environment;
- Recognition of the right of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to be engaged in research that affects or is of particular significance to them;
- Accountability for the development, undertaking and reporting of research;
- Promotion of responsible research practices.
