SVI welcomes new Foundation Chair
Jeremy Gobbo and his wife Sally

After eight years as SVI Foundation Chair, Karen Inge has passed the baton to Jeremy Gobbo KC.

Chair of the SVI Board, Tony Reeves, praised Karen’s service to SVI.

Karen, along with her generous network of family and friends, has championed philanthropy and medical research with enthusiasm and humility.

Her insights and experience on the SVI governance board have been highly valued. We are delighted that she will continue to be involved with the Institute through her support for SVI’s Rising Stars Program.

“Jeremy has been an SVI supporter for many years, and it is wonderful to welcome and congratulate him as Karen’s successor. He will be a valuable addition to the SVI governance board,” said Tony.

Karen said that she was privileged to serve SVI, and thrilled that Jeremy will be the new SVI Foundation Chair.

It takes a team to succeed, and I feel so incredibly proud of the Foundation Board for our collective achievements.

“From sharing of contacts, planning events, and proposal development, to the
all-important ‘making the ask, we have motivated each other with a sense of fun, respect and clarity of purpose – but the most rewarding part has been seeing early and mid-career researchers flourish,” said Karen.

For his part, Jeremy is looking forward to taking up the challenge and is appreciative of Karen’s significant contributions over many years.

Along with the support of Sally and my family and friends, I look forward helping Tom Kay and the SVI team continue to make discoveries that impact people’s daily lives,” said Jeremy.

Jeremy was educated at Xavier College and the University of Melbourne. He enjoyed a diverse legal practice, specialising in property related matters, particularly town planning. He was a member of The Bar’s Ethics Committee for five years and Chairman of the committee that managed Foley’s List, Barristers, and a director, for nine years.

He is a consultant to large family businesses in relation to their property and business strategies. Jeremy is a keen golfer, part-time farmer, Italophile and doting grandfather.

The SVI Foundation Board is comprised of committed leaders who are generous with their time, talent and treasure.

The role of the SVI Foundation is to strengthen SVI’s long tradition of philanthropy by raising funds to support research at the Institute.
