PhD student receives backing for pioneering immunotherapy research

PhD student Ben Turner in the Protein Chemistry and Metabolism Lab has received a generous Top-Up Scholarship from the Elaine Walters Foundation.

Ben’s PhD project is focused on using immunotherapies to fight cancer. He will be working on the development of immune cell engager proteins that activate specific cells of the immune system to target solid tumours. These cells can detect and destroy aggressive cancers, including liver and adrenal cancers—an exciting step forward in immunotherapy.

Ben expressed his gratitude for the generosity of the Elaine Walters Foundation.

“The help provided by the Foundation cannot be understated.”

Dr Christopher Langendorf, Senior Research Officer of the Protein Chemistry and Metabolism Unit, highlighted the impact of the scholarship.

“The Top-Up Scholarships are a tremendous help to the SVI students and one of the main reasons we can attract top-tier talent like Ben.”

By reducing financial barriers, this Top-Up Scholarship empowers Ben to focus on delivering breakthroughs that could change lives.
