Exhausting study
In an article published in the prestigious journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS), A/Prof Bala Krishna Murthy turned this concept of immune exhaustion on its head, to stop immune cells from destroying insulin-producing cells in type 1 diabetes.

New hope for type 1 diabetes
An Australian world-first clinical trial published today in the New England Journal of Medicine, has shown that a commonly prescribed rheumatoid arthritis drug can preserve the body’s own insulin production and suppress the progression of type 1 diabetes (T1D) in those newly diagnosed with the condition.
