As a Discovery Fund member, you become part of a remarkable community advancing the very best of medical research.

Members make a tax-deductible gift of $10,000 pledged annually for five years. This extraordinary commitment is recognised by special status at SVI. Discovery Fund members are invited ‘behind the scenes’ to see our work first-hand and meet our researchers. You’ll enjoy opportunities to catch up with old friends and make new ones at exclusive events, including the annual Discovery Fund Member luncheon.

Many members renew their support for a further five years after completing their initial pledge to the Discovery Fund. Or simply continue to donate $10,000 annually.

One-off gifts of all sizes are also gratefully appreciated.

Funding Discovery

Christine Tarascio AM founded the SVI Discovery Fund in 2006 because she was passionate about finding a sustainable way to support SVI’s medical research efforts.

Eighteen years later, and the Discovery Fund is now valued at more than $8million, including forward pledges, and provides essential funding each year for the Institute’s important work.

At the recent Discovery Fund luncheon, hosted by Christine and her family, members celebrated the vital role this initiative plays in bridging funding gaps, recruiting top scientists, and purchasing cutting-edge equipment.

The Discovery Fund has enabled the recruitment of talented researchers Associate Professor Elaine Sanij, Associate Professor Irene GallegoRomero, and more recently, cardiologists Professor André La Gerche and Dr Liz Paratz, all making significant strides in their fields. Ground-breaking research supported by the Discovery Fund includes areas such as cancer, stroke, and heart disease. It has also supported innovative projects led by researchers like Associate Professor Davis McCarthy, who is advancing our understanding of breast cancer and lung diseases.

The stories shared by André and Liz at the Discovery Fund Luncheon showcased the incredible impact we are making together. Thank you to all our Discovery Fund members for your essential contributions to advancing our research.
